Just made an offer on this...a 2017 VW GTI S with 6300 on the clock. I don’t yet NEED a car but let’s see what their response is; I put my terms in the email and told them I want a signed bill of sale if we agree. No issues putting money in house to hold it till I can get there to sign papers.

I’m getting the feeling that WV golf is the new Miata of Oppo.

In all fairness I’d buy a Miata if RF’s weren’t over 30k

Sweet :)

I’d say it’s the new FiST/FoST

Some of us saw the light.

If this doesn’t work out, try to find one with the lighting and performance package, you won’t regret it.

Is the performance pakc hard to find? A quick cargurus search brough up zero within 75 miles of me, seems hard to believe

having sat in both but driven neither, I’d much rather have the GTi. It feels so much nicer and far more premium, the basic economy roots are painfully obvious in the Ford STs

I stand corrected, i found 3 in my area. Best deal looks to be a 2015 SE w/performance pack

I would imagine most dealers selling them used don’t bother to check if it has the performance pack or not.

Is it more than just the LSD and a power bump?
![]() 10/21/2018 at 12:59 |

Golf R brakes, LSD, and slight power bump. The LSD is 100% worth it, even if you don’t track or autocross it.

Any visual clues outside of window stickers? Echoing Turbocharged squirrels comments, im sure a lot of non vw dealers dont check these things

Red GTI badge on the side, much larger brakes. Let me try to find a comparison pic.

The PP brakes have GTI on them.

I second this. also all 2017 sports, SEs and Autobahs have performance package and lighting package standard.

Just an FYI, if you want android auto/Apple carplay, you’ll need a 2016+ model. 2015 has a smaller screen head unit and doesn’t include the smartphone integratio n like that. Otherwise, features are pretty much identical I believe, but it's worth mentioning in case that's a feature you want.

Yesss! I hope it works out for you. I bought mine on Wednesday and I’m in love! It’s a 2017 with a six speed and 16,000 miles.
I don’t have the performance pack or the lighting pack. The standard lights are pretty good. I have HID lights on my Camaro and those are much better, but the GTI’s lights aren’t bad.
I haven’t driven one with the performance pack. So I can’t really say if that is worth it or not. There is a bit of an issue with traction when you floor it, but I’m blaming cool temperatures and not the best tires. I think an upgraded set of tires once these are worn out will resolve the problem.
I’ve been looking for every excuse to drive somewhere since Wednesday. Could not be happier.

Great car. You won't regret it. The base S is very well equipped as is and I doubt it gives up much to the PP.

I like my MK7 Golf Manual a lot. I was going to get a GTI, but I drive on some rough roads, so I prefer the softer suspension of a normal Golf. It’s a really fun car.

So I guess you’re not going for a sports sedan then...

The GTI is a solid 3-6k cheapee than a Q50S in my area, really sucks but I’d like to not be broke

what happened to saving the integras

A crazy spike in type r prices :(

At those prices they need saving from being in private collection now.

Welcome to the GTI club.
I’ve been quite happy with mine over the last ~3 years.

Not sure if you’re going to be modding your GTI at all, but I did a few things that made a subtle, but big difference in how the car drives.
There is a tiny restrictor in the clutch, called the clutch fluid delay valve. It’s supposed to make it easy to shift in traffic by delaying clutch fluid movement, but all it does is make shifting feel mushy. I had a shop remove it and shifting is much more crisp and direct.
I also bought the APR turbo muffler delete and a Go Fast Bits OEM+ boost cut-off valve. These help to keep boost pressure steady and make the boost cut-off stronger when you’re shifting under boost load. The turbo muffler delete also makes the turbo louder, so you can actually hear those glorious choo-choo noises when driving with the windows down.
Everyone talks about getting a tune; but I think the GTI is fast enough as is. What I still want is more lively turn-in and handling. So I am saving for either an upgraded rear sway bar, slightly better springs, or possibly both. I also desperately want a better steering wheel. Really, VW? No perforated leather? Lame.
